I co-founded Burning Pink, originally called Beyond Politics, with a group of friends and fellow activists including Extinction Rebellion Co-Founder Roger Hallam. Before this point I had not been involved in activism. I decided to step up and run in the election for Mayor of London because I was so angry and frustrated at the government inaction on the climate and social emergency we face. After declaring a climate and ecological emergency, nothing changed! I decided that I had to act, even though I was just an ordinary person, a grandmother with no team or budget, just a small group of friends who believed as strongly as I did that something has to be done. If not us, then who? If not now, then when? We know that the system is broken and unless we change it we will continue racing towards catastrophe and collapse. We will lose all that we hold dear. We owe it to our children, and theirs, to fix this mess. We owe them a future. We need to listen to the science. We need to Tell the Truth and act like it is true. No more empty words! No more broken promises! We need deeds not words! I only have one policy: to put the people in power with legally binding citizens assemblies. London run by the people for the people. Let the people decide what should be done. We can do this!
Why I Decided to Run for London Mayor
The Right to Protest and Why Citizens' Assemblies
I am Burning Pink candidate for Mayor of London Valerie Brown. I believe that right to protest is so important, and we must defend it. Protest and non-violent direct action has been vital for securing the rights and freedoms that we enjoy today. The government trying to pass a Bill that prevents and restrict people’s right to protest is totally outrageous. The right to protest is essential for democracy. This is precisely why we need Citizens’ Assemblies, the people should have the right to decide what should be done. I am running for Mayor of London because I want to give the people the power to decide how their city is run. I only have one policy: to put the people in power with legally binding citizens assemblies. People are chosen a random like a jury, to accurately and fairly represent the population. They are presented with information and evidence, they are given time to discuss, ask questions and reach decisions that are fair and represent all voices. London run by the people for the people. Let the people decide what should be done. No more empty words. No more broken promises. No more of the same. We need deeds not words. We can do this!

I don’t have a big team or budget. We are just a small group of friends and volunteers working hard to make this happen. If you can please help me give power to the people by contributing to the campaign: https://www.gofundme.com/f/valerie-brown-for-mayor-of-london
The Citizens Assemblies are our last chance to save our future. We will do whatever it takes to give the power back to the people. So we rely on donations and membership fees to pay our way, advertise and help volunteers with their expenses.
